The Story of Strawberry & Chocolate
♥ P O S T:

Read this on a female magazine and thought of sharing it with all, "Her World" under section - herworld his say:

"Real men don't behave badly"
Excuse me a bit while I deprecate Singaporean men's lack of chivalry. I was brought up in an era when the men in movies, no matter how tough they were, would get out of the car just to open the passenger-side door for the lady to step in.

Which is why I believe the common practice of Singaporean men driving to a date's home, only to honk at the gate to inform her of his arrival, to be despicable. "She's your date, not the newspaper seller by the roadside," I grumble to myself.

I can still remember my introduction to the old-world charm of chivalry. I was 14, and hopelessly in love with a lanky classmate. We would walk to the bus-stop after school every day, chatting about sweet nothing
and everything. One day, my English teacher, a lady schooled the "old way" who wore petticoats and stockings, pulled me aside with this tip: "Danny, gentlemen always walk on the outside."

My teacher was referring to my boorishness, after seeing my girlfriend and I strolling outside school. I had been walking on the (gasp!) inside of the footpath furthest from the road, while my girl was nearer to the road. According to my teacher, the gentleman always walks on the outside, in case a car mounts the kerb. The next day, I remember my girlfriend was super-impressed when I told her why I insisted we swopped places.

From her smile, I was sold on the idea of chivalry from that day on.

I am old-school this way. I will fiercely support all moves to improve gender equality in Singapore, but when it comes to chivalry, I think men should show all courtesies to our womenfolk.

The way I justify it is that Singaporean women already have a lot on their minds: carving career when gender discrimination still exists; motherhood and all the pains involved; caveman-like husbands who still think that women are here to wash our socks and bring us beer.

I think that us men owe it to our women to give them some good ol' charm and courtesy, simply because they deserve to be pampered.

I do, however, empathise with those who are inclined to do chivalrous acts, but are afraid of the fallout.

I was speaking to some Danish friends recently, and they explained that even in their country, where equality with the sexes is written into government policy, lots of dating pitfalls apparently exist for men.

one of them shared his frustration about a date who became indignant and felt that her womanhood was insulted when he opened a door for her (thus implying her inability to open her own doors).
but when they later shared a pizza, and it was time to pay, she expected him to foot the bill.

Woe is the chivalrous Singaporean male?

i doubt it. my advice to my fellow Singaporean men: Fret not, for it is better to be chivalrous and have it backfire, than to not be chivalrous at all. Men should shower the women in our lives with those extra bits of niceness because it will not only pamper the women, but it will also make us guys feel good. And most of the time, our chivalry will be amply rewarded as most women, I suspect, are secretly waiting for that proverbial knight to sweep them off their feet.

Just keep in mind that you hold her gently but firmly, as falling from a horse is no fun at all.

I've taken a few test and these are the answers
[I wonder if it's true....]:
At your darkest moments, you feel guilty.
At work and school, you do best when you're researching.
When you love someone, you tend to agree with them often.

In friendship, you are considerate and compromising.
Your ideal careers are: business, research, counseling, promotion, and speaking.
You will leave your mark on the world with discoveries, new information, and teaching people to dream.

-WORDS TO SAY-Y

Never give up in yourself.
Have efficiency in the things you do.
You make your own choices.
If you have to fight for the things you deserve, then do it. If not, who will?
A lot of things starts with, "I wish to do it" or "I don't wish to do it"
What everybody owns now comes out from the one who dares to create,
think and dream.

If you think you know me, read my blog and think again.
I am imperfect.
